| | | Sonoma is one of our original foundation females and has been a cornerstone of our breeding program. She was part of the 1995 Importaton from Peru, originating from the Sollocoto Region. The first cria she produced for us was Aristocrat, our premier fawn herdsire by Royal Fawn. What a way to get started!
Although Sonoma is now older, she still has that "regal" look to her. Her once extremely dense, crimpy, fine fiber took 1st place at the 1997 Michigan International Alpaca Fest Fleece Show. And, in spite of being a consistent producer of exceptional crias, her fiber would still class in Peru as "Superfine"! Now THAT is a Foundation Female!
She has been an excellent mom with abundant milk, producing crias that have had very strong growth patterns. We consider Sonoma to be one of Avalon Farm's very best foundation alpacas. | | | Nevar is a jaunty gentleman. When we lead him to our breeding areas, he reminds us of Fred Astaire stepping out in high hat and tails! He is a nice, typey,1/2 Accoyo male with wonderful fiber coverage. Nevar's fiber is soft, crimpy, dense, and lustrous. And, as if this wasn't already enough, Nevar offers genetics not readily available in the USA.
When bred to colored females, he often has produced beautiful colored crias with his lustrous, fine fiber and exceptional coverage. His crias have very attractive heads with abundant face fiber...real attention getters! The fine fiber they have inherited from their sire is exceptional and shows the locky, crimpy character we love to see. Nevar's offspring are beginning to prove their excellence in the showring---multiple blue ribbons and just look how they have represented Nevar in Get-of-Sire!!!. Look for them in the show ring in 2003 and beyond!

Whirlwind carries the genetics of 3Peruvian Cordero 6002, an exceptional full accoyo herdsire who has only recently returned from Australia, and Sonoma, a Sollocota import. A breeding to Whirlwind produces a cria whose bloodlines have not saturated the national market - a great advantage to the seller. This is especially true since both Whirlwind and his sire AFA Peruvian Nevar are Multi Blue Ribbon Winners! Get Whirlwind's extremely dense, wonderfully crimpy, locking, bright fiber that forms consistent bundles from the topknot to the toes on your next cria! Our Shearer, Matt Best, formerly of Magical Farms, and his wife Jozi, who both see plenty of nice fiber, were very impressed to see Whirlwind carry exceptional fiber "even into his topknot" at over 6 years old.
