Tangerine

Dark Fawn, 30921337, 5/8 Chilean, 3/8 Peruvian

Tangerine is an easy-going dam with a beautiful fleece--shiny, bright fiber, uniform crimp and impressive staple length.

Last spring Tangerine produced her first cria, a light fawn female out of our vicuna Macusani grandson, Milo. Clemintine closely resembles her dam and has inherited the same playful personality.

This female carries the proven genetics of Hemingway and Accoyo Felix and color possibilities of her rosegrey mom (who has produced crias from white to true black). If you're looking for proven bloodlines, excellent fiber potential and a great personality, Tangerine will deliver the goods.

Tangerine had her second light fawn female cria in June. Peaches' fiber has a brilliant, completely uniform crimp that forms well defined bundles, and is very dense, one of the best offspring born on our farm. She bred back to Gerardo this fall and we can't wait to see the result.

  Upper Farm's Gerardo
    Medium Brown, 30921344, 5/8 Chilean, 3/8 Peruvian

Nicknamed "DeRaj", Gerardo is the most impressive alpaca born on our farm in 2007. He has a very dense, rich brown fleece with excellent crimp throughout and lots of shine. His conformation is square and flawless. Oh, and did we mention his density? You've got to feel it to appreciate it!

DeRaj carries the genetics of Peruvian Inca and 7X blue ribbon winner Don Reinaldo, which include Crescent Moon Rayo del Sol, Patagonia’s Danko, El R Mr. John Henry and Ubina's Rudolph Valentino.

We have decided to phase DeRaj out of our breeding program, as he is consistently producing white offspring (not the colored variety we expect from a brown herdsire with grey and black genetics). He is priced as a non-breeder.

Peaches was the cream of our 2011 cria crop. Her fiber is exactly what an alpaca breeder strives to achieve--incredibly bright, super dense and crimpy, and very organized bundles. Even from a distance you can see the quality of her fleece, and when you put your hands on it it's an "ooh" reaction.

She is also a bit of a moose, growing like a weed and outweighing her older brothers by several pounds. Peaches has high expectations in her people interactions--if you stand on the other side of the gate she comes over to invite you in and if you venture through the pasture she trots over for a quick kiss. She has become the farm sweetheart!

Peaches has Hemingway and Felix lines on her dam's side and powerhouse color genetics of Don Reinaldo on her sire's side (Danko, Crescent Moon Rayo del Sol among others). She may carry a white spot gene so the best choice for her breeding in 2013 will be a solid colored herdsire. Given her colorful Chilean forebears, we may pair her up with our fine bay black male Dimitri when they are old enough.

Peaches is not included in our 2012 "special offer" package.
