Wow, what a male! Shaddow is one of the best true black males in the country. Fourteen awards including "Get of Sire", 3 Championships. Presence, crimp, density, fineness, brightness, conformation, thick topknot(the densest the Hodson's have ever seen) and coverage. He is just incredible in every way. Shaddow is as black as coal and his fleece is non-fading. Shaddow's first offspring have arrived and have been taking the showring by storm, winning mostly 1st and 2nd place awards. Both of his offspring, Amstel and Mezcal, have gone on to win championships just like their Sire. So far he has produced true black offspring out of black females, bay black out of light fawn females and one gray offspring out of a gray female. He is very consistent in production of color.

We have been excited to have Mezcal in our stud row. We were able to purchase him coming off of his impressive win at the 2004 AOBA National, the largest show ever, up until that time, in North America. He took 1st and Reserve Champion, out of a group of 50 black males, at only 8 months of age; in this competition, he bested the 2003 National Champion, (winner of 6 championships himself), Crescent Moon's Kryptonite, who later sold half-interest for $175,000, making him the 2nd highest selling black alpaca of all time)!! In other words, Mezcal is the REAL DEAL, consistently beating serious competition. His sire is the multiple champion herdsire, Dark Shaddow, producer of champions and himself Reserve Dark Huacaya Herdsire of the Year in 2006.

Mezcal has lovely crimp and brightness throughout his fleece, right up into his impressive topknot, with superb density and coverage. His last histogram, at age 32 months, indicates his inordinately uniform fleece, with an SD of 3.7 and a CV of only 13.7!! He is strong-boned and conformationally correct. His grandsire, on his dam's side, is the renowned Peruvian Guellermo. He has an impressive show record, having consistently excelled in classes of 10 or more alpacas.

Mezcal has been producing outstanding crias, each exhibiting an extraordinary brightness, fine hand and signature crimp style, similar to his, with medium frequency, medium amplitude crimp. His crias have large capacity, strong bone, great coverage. He has consistently produced grey and black when bred to grey and black. He also has produced some beautiful fawns (his grandsire was P. Guellermo).

Consider Mezcal when looking to kick your breeding program up a couple of notches or to keep it there. His crias have done well in the showring; we have many of his offspring on our farm, further attesting to his ability to impart his characteristics to his offspring.

We are very motivated to reduce the size of our herd. Call or stop by, make an offer.
