AlpacaNation: Tell us about yourself...
Heavenly Sunset Farm: Gail and Carolyn are retired from Dresser Rand and Corning Incorporated respectively. Dan is a Service Technician for Griffith Energy and Susan works as a Medical Technologist at Noyes Hospital in Dansville, NY. All of us have farming experience in our "roots" and enjoy the lifestyle.
AlpacaNation: How long have you been in the alpaca business?
Heavenly Sunset Farm: We began to research the business in 2003 by attending seminars and visiting existing farms. In 2004 we started to prepare our property for alpacas by building a barn and beginning to seed and fence pasture areas. We purchased our first animals in 2005 and brought them home on Labor Day weekend.
AlpacaNation: How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?
Heavenly Sunset Farm: Our property is situated in a spot where we enjoy a spectacular sunset nearly every evening. The beauty of these displays can only be created from the Heavens. In keeping with the meaning, we use biblical names for crias born on the farm.
AlpacaNation: What advice would you give to those just getting started in the industry?
Heavenly Sunset Farm: The same advice that we received from successful breeders ... "It's all in the breeding." Genetics cannot be ignored!!
