I just went out to check the girls before bed and I saw one of my girls has a very very swollen 1/2 of muzzle. She also has a bit of runny nose, but she has that quite a bit. She seems fine, hard to tell in the dark with a flashlight. I did try to touch it and she really pulled back, so it must hurt her. I am concerned she can't eat or drink. I am thinking bee/wasp bite we have tons of them around here. We go around knocking down nests constantly. Can you give them benadryl? Any advice? It looks awful

According to Dr Evans (however his 1st edition) Benadryl for anaphylactic reaction IM or IV Doseage 0.5 - 1.0 MG/KG
I think I have over the counter pills on hand in case needed. I would consider trying to dissolve and syringe into her.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Some banamine will help take down the swelling. I had what I figured was a wasp sting last summer. I just kept watching her to make sure she could eat. If not I would try to syringe in some Fibrevive and maybe some chopped up pellets. You can buy some chopped alfalfa in a plastic bag at some feed stores which may be easier for her to chew. I now have injectable benadryl on hand, but of course did not have it when I needed it. Not sure if oral benadryl will help.

This morning her muzzel was close to normal, and I did see her drink water & eat some hay. I will keep some benadryl on hand in case I ever see that again, it was really awful, I felt so sorry for her. This last week we have a zillion flys around too, ever since we started to get some rain. The insects are taking over. I really hate bugs. Thanks for the advice:))

We had a yellow jacket sting a couple of years ago -- our vet said to keep EPE Pens around the place just in case in the future. Ours was a cria and he could not suckle for several hours.
Good Luck!
