I was reading posts about Sand Clear from Sept. and didn't find any mention about pregnant or lactating females. I assume it is ok to give them the sand clear? Any suggestions or thoughts on this? We have sandy soil and want to take every precaution to protect our herd. Thanks, Sue

Sand Clear is metamucil, basically - it's psyllium husk in both. Perfectly safe in pregnant and lactating animals. I use it once a quarter, having had an impacted alpaca here before, but given the nature of the product and what it does, I'll never really know if it's working - which is fine by me as long as there's never another impaction.

I use Sand Clear - the alpacas love the pellets. I use 1/4 cup per adult animal (that's about the dose for a 200# animal), and I give it once a day for 5-7 days, as per the horse recommendations. Cria can have it if they're eating grain, but I'd cut the amount back appropriately. I use it every three months, since the areas around the barn are sandy.
